During my professional practice I get to meet a lot of interesting people. Once I met a client who told me a story about his locksmith experience way back from 1969, so here it is.
Back in my youthful days in 1969 one pretty ordinary thing happened
to me; I lost the keys to my house. Now when I come to think of it,
it was not that ordinary at all. Reviewing that event now actually gives a very
realistic picture of our present day reality and how technology has changed the
whole structure of our existence.
Now, let me explore a bit more. Let me tell you the full
story that actually took place.
I was home alone for a whole week
while my parents went away on vacation. And usually when we young people (as I
was very young back then) are left home alone we either go out with friends and
have a party or stay in with our friends and have a party. So I was doing the
same. I was often partying out and coming back home drunk. And after one such party
I came back one night only to find out that I can’t find the keys to get into
my apartment.
Then what? A moment of drunken panic and trying to make sense out of everything; and of course I had to spend
the night out with my buddy Richmond. Then the next day searched for a
locksmith in our nearby area and took him to my residence. He did the rekeying
and finally I was able to enter into my own house again. Sigh of relief!
You are probably wondering now,
why am I talking about the past?
Because history repeats itself;
and just the other day the same thing happened to me once again. For the second
time in my life I lost the keys to my apartment.
But you know what; unlike the
previous time, I was able to have the rekeying done just within 45 minutes.
Only 45 minutes! Thanks to the internet.
Today you can invite the life-saving
locksmith just by having a google search from your mobile device. Isn’t that
just great!
Now, you probably understand why
I was talking about the past and how thinking of the event that took place back
in 1969 actually gives a very realistic picture of our present day reality and
how technology has changed the whole structure of our existence.
